Modest Columbus Option Spent one night here on a bike ride across Ohio. The Red Roof Plus is a bare bones budget hotel, but it was adequate for my needs. The hotel lacks amenities like breakfast -- the rooms don't even have Kleenex. That said, my room was clean and quiet. I appreciated that I could bring my bike to the room and that the hotel has guest laundry. I didn't feel unsafe, nor did I witness any outsiders using the elevators, but I did smell marijuana in the corridor. There are many hotel options in Columbus -- if this is all that will fit your budget, it will work.

Bogus safety deposit charge I noticed two bogus charges on my bill upon checkout. One $3.00 charge for safety deposit box and another $3.00 for limited safety deposit box insurance. What kind of BS is this? I never used the box so I challenged the charges. The front desk worker told me I had to call and talk to a manager on Monday. I know it’s only $6.00 but it’s a scam. I’m sure not many people would take the time to even notice this charge much less ask for a refund. Which means Red Roof gets hundreds of extra dollars every night from unsuspecting customers

What to say During my visits to Columbus over the past years I have seen this Red Roof many times however never had stayed here. This July I had a 4 night stay at this Red Roof Plus with a challenging experience. Before I start the review a compliment to the service from the front desk. Always a smile and helping hand and this is much appreciated. What to expect from a Red Roof was my thought before I started my stay. I had stayed in a RR a couple of years ago and that experience was quite OK. After the good experience at the front desk the challenges started. Rooms are quite outdated and it is clear that no attempts have been made to modernize this hotel. Which actually should be the case as you are continuously serving public which is visiting the convention center. Having finally put my stuff in the room I found out that the toilet had clogged from the start onwards. As there was no staff available to assist I luckely was able to get another room at the 7th floor. This room was the same mediocre level. Even though it was well cleaned at first sight, and compliments for this to the staff, it was a nice surprise to get a visit from a cock roach the first evening. There is no automatic cleaning service; only on request. Towels are only available on request at the front desk. The rooms itself have an AC but in the hall way there are no AC's available. The hotel serves no breakfast or coffee. There are 2 vending machines on-site available. The hotel has the benefit that it is conveniently situated. However I rather pay some more dollars and be in a nicer hotel surrounding the convention center.

Plus doesn’t mean quality I was here shortly after this place opened and now I stay here some 7 or 8 years later…. Not the same. Its run down and the best part is having the homeless just hanging out, riding up and down the elevators The iron didn’t work, the shower faucet made all kinds of loud screeching noise when you take a shower. And some weird disgusting burning smell came out of the HVAC unit at 3am. Its not a PLUS
