History, Hospitality and Heidelberg Excellent location and love the history! The staff is so attentive and kind. Keep in mind parking is in lot P11 (closest) and P12 (hotel gives discount to park but located at funicular tram to the Castle). The food in the restaurant is good especially desserts! Our king size room was beautiful and had a great view out the front! We cannot wait to return again!

A beautiful landmark hotel which lacks the care and love it deserves!!! One feels privileged to be a guest in such a historically important building (430 yrs old!!). It's beautiful facade is one of Heidelberg's landmarks, photographed by tourists many times a day. However, sadly, the interior decoration does not match the exterior appearance. Fortunately, the beds were comfortable and we slept well but a major uplift of the interior is very much needed. Please, take away the ugly, dirty looking red carpet and modernize that smelly and horrible looking elevator. The reception created in us the feeling of being in a lower class hotel. Zum Ritter deserves so much more care and love. It could easily become Heidelberg's most prestigious hotel. The location is unbeatable.

A Few Tips at Hotel Ritter's Restaurant We managed to find an open table along the popular street “Hauptstrasse.” There is also seating inside. The restaurant is actually called Ritterstube at Hotel Ritter. It was a beautiful early June day filled with the ambiance of the street and across from the scenic church, Heilggeistkirche. We thought our service was just fine, prompt and friendly. We first ordered cold beers. I did have a sausage with sauerkraut and potatoes with mustard on the side. Everything was delicious. We were there well over an hour and enjoyed every minute.

The restaurant with the worst service I have ever been. We had to leave after waiting for 50 min our order We stayed in the restaurant more than 1 hour without being served. Let’s explain. We ordered after 15min wait. After 40 min more, the order hadn’t come. I claimed. They promised 3/4 more max. After another 9 min they served another table (they arrived 30 min later than us). We decided to leave the restaurant. We left 2 unfinished beers and 1 tap water (we had ordered mineral water). Never again in this restaurant.

Landmark building; good restaurant In an ancient building, dining room has white arched ceiling , lots of rooms, quite elegant. WE wanted a slow lunch to avoid the rain - and succeeded. Table layout upmarket. Food excellent, it was schnitzel week, so we all indulged. Good wines. Not as massively expensive as one might guess from the appearance. Young waiters struggled a bit, and mis-served us once; but lots of smiles and our poor German did the trick
