Beautiful Resort- relaxing stay (for the most part) We are Marriott owners (Hilton Head, plus points) and this was our second trip to Hawaii and Ko Olina specifically. We set our expectations lower due to Covid but we really did have a lovely week. We booked a 2 bedroom garden view room. We were placed in the Naia building (2nd time) which we really liked for proximity to the ocean and pool area. The garden view here both stays faced east and we had a lovely view of the lagoon so it was "close to" oceanview. The 2 bedroom is very nice except one bedroom has a lavish over the top bathroom while the other is quite small in comparison. It was "fine" but the smaller second bathroom was a bit annoying. The activities at the resort are very nice. I loved how they had morning yoga every day and the instructors were excellent. They had a lot of family exercise activities as well. The one "must-do" activity in my opinion is the lei making- it's free and you get a beautiful fresh lei! Water stations were abundant (which I didn't think was that important until visiting the Maui Ocean club where they were impossible to find) so that was nice. Pool service was very friendly and abundant and the food options were decent- a bit on the pricey side for drinks but that is the nice part of having a full villa to stock up. The other nice thing were beach chairs on the beach were complimentary unless you wanted to upgrade to an umbrella or cabana. My ONLY complaint is pool security. They went out of their way to admonish people one day and then totally turn a blind eye on others and it became clear that they favored locals who were enjoying the hotel. There was a teenager who showed up, (admitted he was local to kids in the hot tub) who made an effort to disturb as many people as possible at the pool by doing back flops to maximize his splash and soak everyone's stuff. He literally chased us out of the pool one day and when he returned the next day security made little to no effort to correct it. They would actually yell at other small children and pretend they didn't see this young man. Later the security guard had a cozy 10 minute conversation with him so it was obvious he knew him. I have no issues with locals using the amenities- but don't disrupt everyone else who have young kids (even babies) sitting poolside. When security goes out of their way to yell at you for playing music on your phone when you are in a corner that no one else can hear you but then they turn a blind eye to this kind of disturbance was frustrating. Lastly just a few tips on things that made our trip better: Local shopping at Costco, Target, Walmart other grocery stores all good. Loved the grills at Ko Olina they even had pre-packaged BBQ tools nice and clean for you to utilize. Lots of local take out places as well but it takes a bit to get out of the Ko Olina property (slow drive- many speed bumps!) The ABC Store in the Ko Olina property area was lovely and so fairly priced! Great place to grab a toiletry, a bottle of wine, groceries, a pre-made food item or a souvenir. I was frankly shocked at how good their prices are! This trip we went to the Dole Plantation Farm - eh it was ok. Next time I would just pull in to get a Dole Whip at the store and move on to the North Shore. We went to Waimea Beach Park where kids could go cliff diving into the ocean - parking was tough but it was a nice stop, and we stopped at food trucks (shrimp trucks the best) in the North Shore. One day we went north to have breakfast at the Countryside Cafe - highly recommend was a lovely breakfast - but the drive was a little depressing as there were a lot of homeless camped all along the beaches up the west coast. We did not do as much this time around as we did last time as we saw a lot on our first trip. We really enjoyed relaxing at Ko Olina and enjoying the beautiful view and amenities.

Wonderful vacation, fantastic resort, beautiful beach & sunsets! ALOHA! ALOHA! The Marriott Ko Olina was wonderful in every way. Stayed 4 nights in Mountain View Studio, and 2 nights in Ocean View studio. Both were very clean, with very comfortable beds, well stocked bathrooms and perfectly stocked kitchenette. Check in went really well and front desk & bell staff were exceptional, so helpful and very friendly. Rooms ready sooner than check in, which was a plus! This property has a variety of expertly placed pools: Relaxation pools if you are looking for quite pool time, slides and kids pool at the opposite end of the property, gym pools next to a state of the art gym, with pool volleyball and pool basketball, and the best pool...the gorgeous lagoon and ocean! I rented both the cabana and/or umbrella/chairs 4 of the 6 days of my stay, and the best part is they serve them from their on beach bar & grill, right to your chair or cabana! Their beach towel process is well organized and towels were in abundance! Several bathroom facilities accessible to the ocean and pools throughout the property, a great market for shopping, grabbing breakfast, lunch, regular grocery needs, quick snacks, and wonderful Hawaiian art, clothing, or souveniers. Has a beautiful upscale restaurant and bar (Lhongi's), with a beautiful pond and gorgeous ocean front view. Also a beach front bar and grille (Long Boards) with entertainment (music) every night (this is the bar/grille that serves the cabana's & umbrella's all day). All day activities for all ages, including several fitness classes in the mornings (I did yoga every morning) right on the beach! This property is right along the beach walk way of the 4 lagoons, which was a solid 2 miles (both ways which I did after yoga), easily walking distance within minutes to the other lagoons & properties (Four Season, Aulani & Ko Olina Villas). I was looking for a vacation to truly vacate...relax, read, pool, beach, float in the calm waters of the lagoon, spa, yoga, walk, eat, sleep.....REPEAT .. for 6 fabulous days. AND they have their own shaved ice hut right on the property! Marriott Ko Olina and their staff from check in, bell, market, restaurant, activity staff, pool staff, cabana/umbrella staff... were PERFECT! Mahalo Marriott!

Don't Be Too Caught Up On The View I should start by saying thanks to seeing brief mentions in reviews on Trip Advisor after booking at the Marriott Ko Olina that I did some investigating and then promptly cancelled my reservation for the Marriott Ko Lina and changed to another Marriott branded property. I had seen some reviewers mention that even though they had booked a specific view, that view wasn't at all what they got when they arrived because the hotel gives vacation club owners of units first dibs on views. I'm all for unit owners getting great views but not at the expense of somebody who booked a specific type of room getting the leftovers. Not believing this could be true I reached out electronically to the hotel and also via phone to be told by both that, yes, it is true that even if you book an ocean view room, essentially you will get whatever is leftover after owners pick their units. Ocean view essentially just means one half of the building that generally faces toward the ocean and Mountain View is the other half facing the other way but can be any floor and parts of the building where there are barely, if any, views of the ocean. But, while the reservation is for an King Ocean View room and the picture shows a room with the ocean outside of it, a representative in the pre-arrival team explained you might actually have a view of a lawn, a tree, or a building air conditioning unit and you may not see much, if any, ocean view. On the Mountain View side you could be looking at the parking lot. She explained that most days work out that way because the property is often full. There is no explanation of this on the Marriott website or in the booking confirmation (except for a warning under the picture on the website that the room may not be as appears) and seems a bit like a bait and switch. I would argue it is something for Hawaii's Attorney General to crack down on if this is a regular practice. It impacts customers who travel across the Pacific after booking a specific type of room, they get something else and are stuck without many options once on site because hotels in Hawaii are running so full and are so expensive at the last minute. And elite status won't improve the situation as it often might at a Marriott property. I have Titanium status & lifetime Platinum in Marriott, but the rep explained status would not matter because they are a Vacation Club property and it would not improve chances of getting the actual ocean view that I booked. I'm surprised Marriott allows a certain type of room to be booked knowing there is a high probability that is not the actual room that the property is even expecting to give you unless it happens to be leftover. Just a word of warning when booking if the "Ocean View" matters in your "Ocean View" booking then you should probably choose another property where the room type is guaranteed.

My bathroom had hair, pubic hair and dried up shampoo all over the tub and floors This was a surprise stay for my birthday from my husband and my friend so they picked me up from work and had my bags packed and we went straight to the hotel. Checking in we dropped our bags at the room and went straight to the pool and swam. I was the first to the room so I could shower and help with the BBQ. I opened the curtain to the tub and there was pubic hair, hair from the head and dried shampoo on the floor and around the tub. I called operator and they sent a Houseman to clean my bathroom instead of switching my rooms. I took pictures of it all, even the Houseman came and said """Ewww""" there was so much going on because my kids and family had the whole night and the next morning planned out for my birthday. I didn't have time to keep running to the front desk I was in a whole different tower. It was a one night stay but I would have expected more from the Marriott. I finally got a call from Housekeeping management Edell and she literally told me we don't entertain this kind of stuff and that I should have called the front desk management and I told them I did call operator and someone is suppose to call me and she hung up the phone on me kept talking over me and wouldn't even let me speak. Nobody wants to check into a room and find that there room was not cleaned and find someone else's hair and dried shampoo in the bathroom and on the floors. Disgusting!! The pool was fun and my kids did have a good time. My other family were staying there already and have a have a few more nights they're I just wished management took this seriously..

Terrible view and outdated small units We were told we had a Mountain View. Got to the room and it was a view of the parking deck. This was probably the worst view we have ever had anywhere. Not to mention the room was small, dark and outdated. The room has no storage or room to keep your groceries. We went to the timeshare presentation and we were told that they give you a bad view so you will buy a better view as an owner. Seriously who would pay to be treated like this. We travel extensively and we would never pay to stay in a unit like this. The nice pool and lagoons do not make up for the rest of the property.
