Disappointing Experience We were impressed by the quality of our room, the Empire room, and especially the spacious and indulgent bathroom. The dining experience we had on the one evening we dined at the terrace restaurant was very pleasant and the service was genial and efficient.
We should also mention the warm, helpful and efficient individuals at the front desk who went out of their way to make us feel at home and assist us with restaurant reservations.
However we feel that we should make reference to two aspects of our stay which left a rather sour taste
Firstly we were frankly astonished that the hotel does not provide complimentary water in the room except for the first night. We have stayed at many properties with similar star ratings across the world and this is the first time we have encountered such a policy. Given the nightly rate applied by the hotel, such a policy seems inappropriate.
Secondly we wish to complain about the treatment we received at checkout. The final bill presented to us indicated that we had used one bottle of water and each taken breakfast on two mornings. We informed the checkout lady that these items had been erroneously included in the bill as we had not taken any breakfasts at the hotel and not consumed any water in the room. We were rather taken aback by the reaction to our comments by the checkout lady. She asserted that we “must have” breakfasted at the hotel and used a bottle of water in the room, and she inferred that we were not telling the truth. We are both men of the highest integrity and to have our honesty questioned over a period of ten minutes was frankly insulting and demeaning.
The checkout lady finally and somewhat reluctantly relented and issued a revised bill but when we checked the new bill we noticed that it still showed that we had each taken breakfast on one day. When this was pointed out to the checkout lady she again showed an attitude which was not aligned to that expected at a five star property and reluctantly issued a revised and correct final bill
As you can imagine, any positive memories we had of our stay at Chateau de la Treyne have been totally erased by the check-out experience and I regret to say that we shall not be returning to the hotel or recommending the establishment to our social circle or business acquaintances
I hope the hotel takes our comments on board and reflects on what measures it can take to prevent a recurrence of this unfortunate event

Fabulous accommodations but disappointing dinner Our experience was mixed. On the one hand the hotel’s service, ambience, furnishings were extraordinary. The front desk staff were most helpful and informative. The property is right out of a story book perched high above the Dordogne. The decor of our room was most luxurious and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with attentive service. But we were disappointed with our dinner as explained in a separate review of the restaurant.

A Fairytale Escape. A Dream Come True. <3 Oh Chateau de la Treyne! You are magnificent! I had dreamed of staying here for so many years, and it was everything I hoped it would be, and so much more! I had written a review a few years back when I was lucky enough to come for dinner with my parents and my sister. It was a spectacular meal, and the setting was just magical. I promised myself should I ever get back to Dordogne, I would stay at least a night in this special place. And as luck would have it, a dear friend of mine in Paris wanted to go driving in Dordogne for a few days... so the first call I made was to Chateau de la Treyne to see if it was available and within my budget. The woman on the phone (Stephanie) was so lovely and warm. I had told her staying at de la Treyne was a dream for me and she made me feel so welcome - and even though I was on a budget she upgraded one of the rooms for me without charging extra!
A bit about the place: from the moment you arrive, it's like stepping into a fairytale. The Chateau is a masterpiece of refinement and elegance. Perfectly situated overlooking the Dordogne river and surrounded by forest and beautifully manicured gardens, it's hard not to be overcome by its beauty.
And then there's the team. When we arrived Stephanie was there to greet us, and she seemed just as excited as I was to have this dream come true! Imagine my surprise when I found out she was the owner! She couldn't have been lovelier or warmer or more down-to-earth.
The rooms were stunning- like stepping back in time, but with all the modern comforts you could want. I would look forward to going back to my room at the end of the day and curling up in that four-poster bed!
And the restaurant... dear God, that restaurant! Michelin-starred and for good reason. The elegant dining room was the perfect setting for this incredible meal. Each dish was a work of art and so delicious. From the amuse bouche to the dessert... scrumptious! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
And I have to say, for how upscale this hotel is, there are absolutely no pretensions. The team here make everyone feel so welcome and comfortable and like you are 'coming home' (oh, I wish!). And I have to say this about all the staff I came in contact with. Everyone went above and beyond in making our stay special and helping in whatever way they could. In fact, Yvonne (who runs the breakfasts and who was a complete delight) heard that we were looking for a place to stay close to Brive and went to consult a colleague who lived in Brive. Yvonne introduced us to this kind young man who told us about the accommodations he used to work for and immediately got on the phone to find us rooms. I'm not kidding. Everyone is lovely.
For as magical as a stay at Chateau de la Treyne is, and believe me it is an absolute DREAM- it's the people that make it so special. As someone who has traveled the world and has been fortunate enough to stay in some incredible accommodations, I can say without hesitation that de la Treyne is truly exceptional. It's so rare to find a place where luxury and comfort are matched by such genuine warmth and hospitality. Thank you to the entire team at Chateau de la Treyne! I'm so grateful for the unforgettable memories, and I dream of the day I can return to this fairytale place!!!

Absolute bliss Chateau de la Treyne exceeded all our expectations. I knew from their website and photos that this would be a magical place to stay, but my imagination fell short when it came to our actual experience. Given the opulence of the Chateau and its surrounding beautiful grounds and gardens, it could have felt a little daunting, but from the moment you enter, you feel so taken care of, that it almost feels like home. I don’t think I’ve been treated as well at any hotel or resort; the service on every level was outstanding. You simply never wanted for anything. Their genuine hospitality, their exuberance and pride in their work showed in their utmost care for the smallest of details. And if you really want to treat yourself, dine at their fabulous restaurant as often as you can! Superbe! Thank you to all at the Chateau de la Treyne for making our stay, one that we will treasure always. Merci beaucoup!
