Fun for Everyone Hotel Chocolat’s tree to bar tour was one of the main highlights of our trip to Saint Lucia. We learned so much about the chocolate industry and got to make our own dark chocolate. Fun for all the family, with friends, or couples. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Absolutely beautiful location; so glad we stayed here We stayed at Sugar beach as part of our St Lucian stay; 5 nights in a luxury villa with pool and it was beautiful. We had an uninterrupted view of the pitons which was incredible, the beach is stunning - although a little rocky to enter. The breakfast is sensational and was our favourite meal of the day. Gym was well equipped and the shuttle bus around the resort is needed and welcomed All the staff were welcoming and very helpful and definitely made the resort a 5* We stayed in the north for the second half of our stay and it wasn’t a patch on sugar beach - we would definitely recommend and return

A Slice of Heaven There's no way I would not give this resort 5 stars. It's breathtaking, seriously the most beautiful place I've ever stayed. We stayed in one of the grand villas, and there's nothing like waking up in that pristine place and walking outside to the patio to that gorgeous view of the ocean and the Pitons. I traveled with my husband and 5-year-old, and we had a wonderful time. Some details for travelers I wanted to include, based on what I wanted to know going into this trip: BRINGING KIDS: The resort is VERY kid friendly, without it being the chaotic mess that some kid-friendly resorts are. It never felt loud or overrun with kids––pretty peaceful everywhere I went. There is a kids' club, and we did leave our daughter there for an hour one day, but it was mainly indoor activities (I think they made kinetic sand while there) rather than beach activities. So we ended up not using it much––but she was able to enjoy stuff like snorkeling and riding with me on the sea kayak, and of course using the pool. It was also easy for her to make friends with the other guests' kids, which was nice. All the restaurants had the same kids menu, which was nice. And the Grand Villa had a separate room with sleep sofa, so space-wise it was perfect. MOSQUITOS: A lot of the reviews mention the mosquitos, and as someone who attracts every mosquito in a mile radius, this gave me some anxiety going into the trip. When we arrived our Butler warned us about the mosquitos and advised us to keep the doors closed. I found the issue to be manageable. The errant mosquito would make it into our room, but it wasn't anything I haven't encountered at other resorts. They also provide Deep Woods Off in the room, so I just put that on whenever I went outside (also a citronella candle outside). They are the worst on the patios by the plunge pool, so if you plan to sit out there, lather up with spray (my daughter sat out there one morning without spray and came back in with about 25 bites). But with spray they didn't bother me. I didn't find them to be a problem by the pool or on the beach. TIPPING: I was so confused the whole time about when to tip and how much, mainly because the service is so good and people are constantly doing stuff for you. After the first day we ended up getting out a bunch of cash so we could tip. We tipped on top of the service charge at meals (and at breakfast, which was included in our package, we would do about $20-25). At the pool and beach there are people who set up your chair and umbrella and bring you towels; we didn't have cash the first day but after that would tip 5 or just add tip to drinks we ordered. There are shuttle drivers that take you everywhere. For excursions or transfers we tipped $20, for short rides either we didn't tip (seemed like most people didn't) or just like $2. We tipped housekeeping $5-10 per day and the butler about $40/day (gave the butler tip at the end). I have no idea if any of this is typical, necessary, or too low, but when we researched it this seemed like the right amoount. STUFF TO DO: Our trip was very short, only 3 nights, so we really only had 2 full days. The first day we stayed at the resort and were perfectly happy. We used the pool, swam in the ocean, and went snorkeling. On the second day we went to the mud baths/sulfur springs in the morning. There's a very short tour (10-15 minutes) to explain the caldera followed by a dip in the baths. Our 5-year-old came with us but the baths were too hot for her. The "coolest" was like the hottest you would ever set a hot tub. She did enjoy painting herself with mud, though. Go in the morning because it starts to get really crowded around 11. It's a short excursion and cool to see. That afternoon we stayed at the pool and beach, snorkeled some more, and rented boats and paddle boards. It's honestly so breathtaking at the resort that we didn't really want to leave. MEALS: Our initial plan was to have some of our meals outside of the resort since we're usually averse to staying in a resort the whole time and not trying local food. But most of the restaurants recommended outside of the resort, it turns out, are just at other resorts. The meals at the resort are excellent––it's very different from a place like, say, Atlantis, where the food felt very generic and attempted to appeal to as many people as possible. We enjoyed a lot of delicious local seafood and just in general some quality food! It is REALLY pricey though! Expect to pay $15-30 for a cocktail or glass of wine, $30-45 for appetizers, and $35-200 for an entree. Kids' items are $15 a piece (as are sides). Our approach was just to say F- it and just order whatever we liked (though steering clear of the $100+ entrees), because the reality is if you worry about markups you won't enjoy it as much. And the food is definitely good, as is the service. We ate at the Bontay, Cane Bar, and Saltwood. My daughter's favorite was the Bontay, my husband's the Cane Bar, and mine the Saltwood. :-) Lunch on the beach was––again––pretty pricey, but good. I liked that they had healthy lunch options like salads or ceviche wherever we went. If you can afford it, this place is far and away worth the price. The locals who did our transfers raved about how this is by far the best place to stay on the island. And I loved how it didn't feel like a place where they had seriously disrupted the local environment but kind of worked the rooms and resort and even the roads into the natural landscape (this may just be part of the illusion, but that's how it felt). We really hope to return someday.

Trip of a lifetime! 10/10 My husband and I visited Sugar Beach and St. Lucia for our first time. Since we’ve never been to the country before, we narrowed down our search to Sugar Beach or Jade Mountain. While Jade Mountain looks like a beautiful property, we liked having a closed off hotel room and all of the amenities that Sugar Beach has to offer. We stayed in mid-July. While July is deemed as the rainy season, we experienced rain mostly in the mornings and the rest of the day was humid and in the mid to high 80’s. Though it rained, it didn’t ruin any of our days or excursions. The rain passing through was actually pretty nice! As others mentioned, there are mosquitoes, though, the hotel provided Off bug spray complimentary in our room. Overall, I would rate our stay a 10/10. This is a luxury hotel, and you certainly get what you pay for. We booked the following activities with the concierge prior to our arrival on property: A couples massage at the Rainforest Spa followed by using the sauna, a sunset cruise with other hotel guests, a Gros Piton hike, and car transfers to/from the hotel for arrival/departure. Once on property, we were able to book additional dinner reservations with our butler. We had no issues making reservations. However, July is not peak season and I recommend making reservations before your stay, if possible. Our AM and PM butlers, the shuttle drivers, the spa attendants, the restaurant staff, and the beach staff were all extremely attentive and friendly during our stay. We would call for a shuttle, and they’d be outside in an instant! We stayed in the Superior Luxury Villa in Room 907. For 2 people, our room and outdoor area exceeded our expectations. On the days where we wanted to relax, we enjoyed hanging out in our pool and lounging. This was a trip of a lifetime for my husband and I. Thank you, Sugar Beach for the best vacation ever!
