  • Run or Dye
Run or Dye is making race running a little more colorful, one major city at a time. This 5K is divided up into four separate courses of varying lengths, each designated by a separate color?which also reflects the color of safe, eco-friendly powered dye the participants get splashed with. At the end of the race, they'll cross into the aptly named Dye Zone?a polychromatic free-for-all where fluorescent color is thrown freely from all sides, allowing runners to splash their fellow runners or get colorful revenge on their friends, family members, and any cranky art-history teachers that happen to be walking by. Unlike some races that rank runners by time, Run or Dye only measures success in color and fun. While the safe-to-eat dyes should wash out of clothing, runners are encouraged to wear things they don't mind getting dirty, preferably in white, gray, or another neutral color to give the dyes maximum visibility.

  • Corner Store Country Run 5K
From serious runners to leisurely walkers and from individuals to families, the runners competing in the Corner Store Country Run 5K (presented by Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes) are encouraged to replace their shorts and sweat-wicking t-shirts with their "finest country duds," be they overalls or straw hats. At the finish line, they join in a post-race jamboree with free swag, live music, food, carnival games, face painting, a photo booth, and a beer garden. Chip timing is available for those with a competitive streak, and prizes will be awarded for the fastest folks in each class. Adults enjoy two free beer tickets, and every runner gets the joy of knowing that all proceeds benefits charitable organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

  • TheSuperRun - Owego NY
In comic books, sightings of masked and caped individuals means someone is about to get rescued. Sightings of these people at The Super Run are no different, except the beneficiaries of these superheroes are charities in need of funds. The Super Run partners with non-profit organizations across the country to host superhero-themed events that raise funds and awareness for each charity?s cause. The Super Run?s super staff provides logistical support, helps charities pick out the location to hold the run, and manages volunteers who recruit sponsors and work the run. Charity runs take place from coast to coast, including Seattle, Honolulu, and Gotham City.

  • Hardcore Mudd Run
Fire above. Water and mud below. Talk about motivation. Men and women will need to stay low as they crawl their ways through this challenge, known as Fire Diver. But that's just the beginning. More than 20 other challenges sprawl across the Hardcore Mudd Run. Some are straightforward enough, like the Rat's Nest: a web of rope that stretches 20'x30'. Others can adapt to the competitors themselves; at the Paint Ball Run, someone fires paintballs at the runners themselves. Indeed, the Hardcore Mudd Run aims to push its participants to their limits, whether they compete as teams or individuals. Yet ample rewards wait at the end of the finish line. An after-party goes until sundown, surrounding attendees with food and drink. Organizers also hand out awards in categories such as "largest team competing."

  • Superhero Scramble
During the Superhero Scramble, racers of all fitness levels tear across arduous terrain littered with body- and mind-challenging obstacles. Participants must wade through mud and, to reach the finish line, persevere through a barrage of Super Slime generously donated by retired Ghostbusters. Upon completing the race, athletes ride their endorphin high into a party stocked with ice-cold beer. There, they can mingle with other contestants, sway to live music, and see awards doled out to the fastest runners in each age bracket. Male and female Scramble Gamble contestants compete for prizes that can cover the cost of replacing the engines in their sneakers. The benefits of the race extend beyond the Gamble winners, too?the organizers donate a portion of the proceeds to charity.
