  • Table Fifty-Two
Chef Art Smith might as well be on Oprah's "Favorite Things" list every year. Before opening Table Fifty-two, Smith spent a decade as Oprah's personal chef, and she's loyal to his cooking even now. She often stops by Table Fifty-two for a gourmet, Southern-inspired meal—that is, when the media mogul isn't busy flying him around the world to cater her events. Below are three key facts about the restaurant that you can work into your next Skype date with Oprah. 1. This is Southern food made by a Southern farm boy. Smith grew up on a farm in rural Florida, near the Georgia border. Unlike most Florida cuisine, which tends to focus on orange trees swallowed whole, the food in that area was "very much old South," meaning lots of sweet potatoes, pecans, and fried chicken, Smith said. So he grew up eating the food he cooks now, including the high-quality meats. His family raised plenty of livestock—as a kid, Smith even had a pet pig, Piglet. 2. The biscuits are life-changing. Though an oven-fresh basket of them is free with every meal, it's far from a throwaway offering. In fact, biscuits might be Smith's signature dish. Whether he's cooking in Jackson, Mississippi, or running a pop-up restaurant in Milan, "I always make a biscuit," he said. At Table Fifty-two, they're pillowy drop biscuits, almost like the ones his grandma made. Smith's innovation? He works goat cheese into the dough and tops each one with a shaving of parmesan. 3. The Obamas also love Table Fifty-two. It seems celebrities with O names flock to Smith's cooking. The first couple visited on their first Valentine's Day in office, and Michelle loved the shortbread-crusted pecan pie so much that, when she and President Obama were too full to finish it, she took it home in a doggie bag. “I think she actually made taking a doggie bag out fashionable," Smith said.

  • Odyssey Fun World
Odyssey Fun World's attractions aren't confined to its 45,000 square feet of indoor games and rides; they also sprawl across 11 acres in the fresh air. Inside, a ferris wheel, bumper cars, and a roller coaster host both kids and adults, and more than 250 arcade games and a laser-tag arena foster friendly competition. The indoor Gamers Lounge allows youngsters to practice their PS4 and XBox One skills, while kids up to 10 years old fling themselves into ball pits, slip down slides, or dispute the physics behind make-believe-ore extraction in tunnels at the four-story Exploration Adventure play structure. The Tinley Park location also boasts an Odyssey Fun Farm from September 27 through November 1. The farm, which is located across the street from the main park, includes a pumpkin patch, corn maze, and a 5-acre courtyard filled with activities such as pig races and a petting zoo. Outside, at the Naperville location, the staff keeps the Kidz Adventure Park's inflatable bounce houses and slides properly puffed. At the Tinley Park location, they pretend to manicure the faux turfs of two 18-hole mini-golf courses, including one that's wheelchair accessible. Their bumper boats encourage friendly jostling, but the speedboats, limited to drivers aged 16 and older with a driver's license, are all about crossing the finish line first. As trips down the zipline peak adrenaline and appetites, Chipper's Cafe counters hunger with pizza, wings, and burgers.

What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? We study Shito-Ryu Karate, one of the four original karate form from Okinawa Japan. We have been teaching traditional karate, fitness, and self-defense for 41 years in Springfield, Illinois. Karate bring confidence to the introverts, and focus to those with high energy. We make learning karate fun. Exercise is challenging. How do you keep clients motivated and engaged? We do not teach karate out of a book or guide. We do have standards, from the Wold Shito-Rye Karate Do Federation, we have to meet, but we include self defense that works. We attend tournaments, locally, statewide and nationally governed by the United States National Karate Do Federation. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? Karate is great for: fitness, goal setting, teamwork, coordination, self control, self respect, self esteem, self discipline, self control, individual development, listening skills, positive influence, non violent conflict resolution and self defense. What do you love most about your job? There is that ah-ha moment when someone finally gets it. There is that moment when the student finally looks you in eyes, and you can see the new found confidence. There is that moment when that student goes to state and realizes that their karate works as they look at the medal they just won.
