Convenience spurred the invention of the sandwich, so that you could eat on the go, and the pizza, so that you could wheel chunks of sausage from town to town. Transport your palate with this Groupon.

$10 for $20 Worth of Café Food and Drinks

For breakfast, cooks prepare frittatas ($5.25+) with zucchini, ricotta, pepperoni, and other savory toppings and griddle pancakes ($5.95+) with blueberries, bananas, or chocolate chips. For lunch, they assemble sandwiches such as the open-faced baguettes with smoked prosciutto and fontina cheese ($9.50). Hearty pasta dishes such as spaghetti with Sardinian caviar ($17.95) emerge from the kitchen at dinner.

Café Americano

When chef Dino Carta prepares Italian food at Café Americano, he draws from three wells of knowledge: his upbringing in Sardinia, his training at the Istituto Alberghiero di Sassari, and his experience working at restaurants in London and Paris. As Dino manages the kitchen, Carlo Piras and Giulia Lubino oversee Café Americano's front house. These three natives of Sardinia attend to every aspect of the experience—the ambiance, the cuisine, the service—to ensure that every guest has an uplifting experience.

The menu spans all three meals. For breakfast, Dino sizzles up frittatas, piling them with savory veggies and cured meats. Dino broadens his repertoire for lunch, assembling pressed paninis and pastas while simmering minestrone and other classic italian soups. In a review of Café Americano, Sarasota Magazine labeled the pastas as "hard to pass on," adding, " Ricotta and spinach crespelle with radicchio and scamorza is difficult to describe, but delicious to consume." To complement Dino's cuisine, Carlo maintains a wine cellar with more than 400 hand-selected bottles. Upon request, Carlo can elucidate the properties of each wine, whether extolling the cherry undertones of a merlot or the essence of ham hock in a syrah.

  • It's hard to find really good Italian food in America. Cafe Americano is the real thing. Worth a stop if you're in the area.
