There's a first time for everything—a first kiss, a first kiss where one person is blindfolded, a first kiss where both people are blindfolded but one person is allowed to remove his/her blindfold during the kiss, etc. Here are some tips to help you with another significant first—buying a home:

• Figure out what you want, such as number of bedrooms, general smell, general smell after it rains.
  

• Look at homes near stores you frequent, schools you will want your children to attend, or cemeteries you would be OK getting buried in.
  

• Write down a target home price on a piece of paper. Then look at that piece of paper until you've memorized the price. There's no sense in carrying around a piece of paper if you don't have to.
  

• If you feel stressed, remember that your first home isn't going to be your last home and that you can relieve that stress by just buying a home and then breaking things with a sledgehammer in privacy.
