Over her impressive career, Vanessa C. has styled the hair of NFL football players and fashion models. Perhaps the most important client she's ever had, though, was her first?a mannequin. When she was young, she spent hours at a salon making over a mannequin head and watching her dad, a master barber, work his magic. She was hooked. With the hopes of following in her dad's footsteps, she enrolled in cosmetology school and became licensed. She soon was working as a contract stylist in New York City, as well as a stylist for models during photo shoots. Hair etc by Vee, LLC is the culmination of her journey through the world of cosmetology. Here, Vanessa continues to execute her eye for fashion while cutting, braiding, and installing weaves and extensions. She even offers bridal services to help women look their very best on the big day, when they'll be posing for pictures or trying to balance atop a cake.

Of all the positive things that have led Joke Factory Comedy Club to succeed, two may be the most potent: the regular lineups of local and nationally touring standup talent at all four of its locations, and the sheer moxie of veteran comic Artie Fletcher, sometimes called "New York City's Bad Boy of Comedy". The latter of those two helped nurture the venue's capacity to host the former, prompting popular southern comic Eddie Caylor to dub the Joke Factory "the little club that could and did." Joining the extant Joke Factories in Indiana, North Carolina, and Florida, the Rochester branch (located inside a Holiday Inn) allows Fletcher to introduce acts from around the country to the local audience, visitors to town, and hotel enthusiasts.

Gymnastics have always been part of Sasha Kourbatova's life. She started competing when she was 6 years old and trained with a very accomplished coach—her own mother. Sasha's mom Maria won two Olympic gold medals while competing on behalf of the USSR, and she shared her skills with her daughter. When Sasha stopped competing, she decided to open Kour Magic Gymnastics Center. She invited her mom and dad—also a gymnastics coach—along, and together they train a new generation of gymnasts.

Sasha works with all the young kids who come through, and even includes parents in the workouts during Mommy & Me classes. Maria heads up the gym's competitive teams, which let kids test their skills against others. They teach students from 18 months to 18 years old, providing consistently scaling challenges and encouragement along the way.

Since 2007, the coaches and team members at Rochester Parkour have introduced novices to the sport of parkour, the free-form physical discipline of training the human body to overcome physical obstacles in the most efficient way possible. At the activity’s highest level, bodies can deftly navigate even the densest urban spaces, contorting to squeeze through narrow passageways and nimbly leaping to snatch pies from third-story windowsills.

As with most sports, however, beginners start with simple maneuvers, conquering basic vaults, swings, and jumps before moving on to more complex movements. In Rochester Parkour’s diverse array of classes, students of all ages and experience levels first explore an indoor gym filled with I-beams, scaffolding, and vault boxes, all ideal for practicing moves away from hard concrete and heckling pigeons. In keeping with the central tenet of parkour, individuals remain in control of their own speed and maneuvers at all times; if moves in the basic classes are too overwhelming, Rochester Parkour also offers low-impact and low-mobility variations.
