Restaurateur Peter Raimondi seems like a pretty good son. The proof is in the name of his Italian restaurant: the A stands for his mother, Antoinette, and the last three letters pay tribute to his father, Leo. It's his way of saying thanks to the Italian-American New Yorkers who taught their son the virtues of good food served with gracious good cheer. Handmade pastas and seafood plucked daily from local markets make Aleo’s Mediterranean-tinged menu as fresh as it is comforting. Chefs can customize pasta dishes to extend an already bountiful menu of dishes such as pumpkin-stuffed ravioli, rigatoni with slow-cooked sirloin, and mustard-and-scallion-slathered salmon.
A seat on Aleo’s landscaped patio—kept toasty during the winter with heat and a temporary roof—or in its cozy dining room makes it easy to linger for hours over cappuccino or martinis dispatched from a commanding marble bar. The wait staff stays intimately acquainted with the kitchen's work through the family meal they share each day, and they're continually trained on topics such as wine knowledge and brokering food-fight treaties.
