Cafe Citron

When night falls at Cafe Citron, something of a Cinderella effect happens. The pan-Latin bistro and happy-hour hotspot transforms into an energetic, internationally inspired VIP lounge. To gain access to the lounge, Groupon customers must show their vouchers. Candles set the rustic brick walls aglow, a vintage fireplace flickers, and the onyx bar sparkles with glittering reflections from crystal chandeliers and jack-o'-lanterns ready for a night out. From there, free salsa lessons might begin or a Latin-international DJ might spin, but no matter what happens Cafe Citron stays true to its roots.

After the Cafe transforms back into its former visage, trading the late-night menu of small plates for full-fledged meals, these roots remain. The selection of Central and South American comfort foods effortlessly spans borders, covering everything from Bolivian chicken stew to fajitas with grilled shrimp. "Some of the best mojitos in Washington are poured here," according to The Washington Post, although the bartenders also serve pisco sours, sangria, and spicy margaritas made with tequila they infuse with jalapeños in-house.

Customer Reviews

The food is good and the salsa dancing is better. We especially love the class at 8:00 pm with Carlos.
