Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian Martial Art that combines elements of fight, acrobatics, music, and dance in a very elegant and magnetic way. The uniqueness of Capoeira will give your body physical strength, power and flexibility and your mind self-confidence, concentration, courage and creativity.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Capoeira emerged as a disguised self-defense among African slaves in Brazil. It was developed in Brazil mainly by African descendants with native Brazilian influences, probably in the 16th century. The art of Capoeira combines martial arts with music, dance, and acrobatics.
What do you love most about your job?
Practicing Capoeira is not just a physical activity, but is a full immersion in Brazilian culture. Learning how to play instruments (the berimbau and multiple percussions) and sing songs from the Capoeira tradition in Portuguese is a key part of each practice.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
Mestre Lucas Corvo, the only Brazilian Capoeira Mestre in Colorado, has been practicing capoeira for almost three decades. In Brazil, the United States, and now internationally, Mestre Lucas has continued to visit various academies and participate in rodas, workshops, and batizados.
