A plane affords sights not possible from anywhere else on earth, such as bird's-eye views of mountains or bird's-eye charts written into the plains. Test your avian vision with today's Groupon: for $99, you get one hour of ground instruction and a one-hour introductory flight over the valley from Classic Air Aviation in Mesa (a $200 value).
From their home nest at Falcon Field Airport, the licensed instructors at Classic Air Aviation elucidate the fundamentals of flying for aspiring aces. During one hour of ground instruction, teachers impart a wide variety of vital know-how, from instruments and aerodynamics to taxiing and checking wings for ice and penguin stowaways. Next, student and teacher board the former’s choice of a Cessna 120, Cessna 172, or Piper Cherokee aircraft and take to the skies. Once airborne, the plane soars northward over Red Mountain, Fountain Hills, or Saguaro Lake before heading back over the Salt River and smoothly touching down for a safe landing. Depending on the student's comfort level, he or she may assume the aircraft's controls during any portion of the flight, or simply observe while the instructor handles maneuvers and calls in classic-rock requests over the cockpit radio.
Classic Air Aviation
In a dorm room at Arizona State University in 2005, a group of entrepreneurial young aviation enthusiasts hatched the plan for what would grow into Classic Air Aviation. Now, from their new home nest at Falcon Field Airport, the team of licensed instructors elucidates the fundamentals of flying for aspiring aces. Passionate instructors educate aviators with a range of classes and certifications that range from ground school and private-pilot training to certified flight-instructor training and commercial pilot certificates. All programs follow FAA guidelines to ensure that students learn the basics behind the airplane’s various flight controls and instrumentation and watch a mandatory PSA warning against the hidden dangers of gravity.
