Abstracts: Art Class

Seattle Artist League

Highlights

This Abstracts workshop will encourage students to make many works and studies, with the idea of pushing participants past their threshold of what they might consider to be the final product. Play, explore and a willingness to recreate or destroy a work will be emphasized.

On the first day students will bring 4-5 images from any era. The objective will be to explore ways to push an image further into abstraction. We will focus on how a newly formed image can inspire the next. Various approaches will be examined through drawing shapes, lines, intersections, scale, mark making and the use of collage. All this will be a jumping off point to further explore abstraction; achieve subtle (and not so subtle) shifts. Studies maybe re-worked, reinvented, combined and/or are the starting point for a series of images.

This workshop is for anyone wanting to invigorate their painting practice, break out of their comfort zone and expand their visual vocabulary. Highly individual critiques will take place, along with group critiques.
