Highlights

Early in his career, Thiebaud thought paint looked like frosting, so he developed an application style for his famous paintings of cakes, pies, and pastries. He created a spatial tension between the repeated forms of the objects with perspective, and his unique compositional style.

We will be studying and discussing his process of working, and you will learn to identify and translate the characteristics of his brush strokes, colors, light, movement and his very unique use of perspective in his drawings and paintings.

You are welcome to bring couple of reference photographs of your favorite desserts for inspiration. We will start our day with charcoal and ink studies of perspective drawings. And gradually move on to painting from ‘observed memory’.

Due to time limitations, acrylic paints are recommended.

If painting, you must have some experience in your chosen media.

Beginners welcome. Haven’t drawn or painted much before? Join us. You will be given challenges appropriate for a beginner.
