Scan CrossFit Bullpen’s 4,000 square feet of space, and you will see 30 barbells, 120 bumper plates, 27 medicine balls, and myriad kettlebells, squat racks, speed jump ropes, foam rollers, and mobility bands. The gym—known as the Box—is stocked with equipment that mimic functional movements, so people break a sweat jumping, squatting down, swinging kettlebells, and folding themselves into a working pocketknife. Workouts change daily, and coaches take a scaled approach that allows members of different athletic abilities to participate in the same class and be equally challenged.
