Crown Uptown Theatre's production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street combines the 1973 play by Christopher Bond with the lyrics of Stephen Sondheim and the libretto prowess of Hugh Wheeler. The story follows the dark and twisted tale of the vengeful 19th-century barber, Benjamin Barker (aka Sweeney Todd), as he pairs up with pie maker Mrs. Lovett and slices and dices his way to the top of London's barber pole.

Before the show, theatergoers can dine on a dinner—served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday–Saturday and from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday—of a mixed-greens salad with pear vinaigrette and pecans, butternut-squash bisque, and a choice of meat pies, pecan-crusted tilapia, or chicken and dumplings. Entrees come with roasted red potatoes and seasonal veggies, and are followed by a choice of new york–style cheesecake, sugar-free strawberry pie, dark-chocolate layer cake, spiced-apple cobbler, or bread pudding made from pumpkin bread.

Really enjoyed hoping to see the show anyway

The plays we have seen there have been top-notch. The dinner is not quite as good as when they had a big buffet (several years ago before it closed down temporarily and then changed hands). But it's still pretty good. The service is excellent--staff are efficient and attentive to all your requests.
