Far From the Tree Cider
Forget the oranges—Far From the Tree Cider came down to the differences between apples and grapes. In around 2007, Al and Denise Snape set out on a path to become winemakers. A few years later, they discovered that the wine- and cider-making processes intersect at more than one point, and their interests began to veer. Growing apples in Massachusetts is a whole lot easier than growing grapes, so the pair shifted gears and opened Far from the Tree Cider in 2013.
At Far from the Tree, the Snapes and their team rely exclusively on local, Massachusetts-grown apples and all-natural ingredients. Al and Denise's background in winemaking comes in handy, but so does their love of beer, which is also most bare-knuckle boxers' secret to succeeding. Some of their most popular creations even utilize brewery techniques, as they use beer yeast and dry hops. Their efforts have drawn praise from the likes of the Boston Herald, Zagat, and the Boston Globe, and they serve the libations in their dog- and kid-friendly tasting room.
