The Scouting Report
Another year, another postseason for the Fever. In what has essentially become an annual tradition, the Fever will dribble into their 11th consecutive playoff appearance—a WNBA record—in pursuit of a second league title. Crucial to the team’s streak has been veteran forward Tamika Catchings, and this season is no different: the 2012 WNBA Finals MVP once again leads the Fever in points (13) and rebounds (7) per game, not to mention the wealth of playoff experience and variety of ear-piercing sneaker squeaks she brings to the floor. Catchings and her teammates will set their sights on advancing to the next round when they host the second game of the Eastern Conference semifinals this weekend.
The Fever played their first game ever against the Miami Sol on June 1, 2000. They didn't have a lead in that game until there was less than three minutes remaining, but the Fever pulled out a comeback victory—and have basically been winning ever since. Like the ball dropping on New Year's Eve or Punxsutawney Phil oversleeping, the Fever advancing to the postseason has become an expected occurrence every year. In 2012, that unmatched consistency culminated with the franchise's first WNBA title, and perennial All-Star Tamika Catchings—whom the Fever drafted in the first round of the 2001 draft—fittingly took home Finals MVP honors. Catchings led the Fever back to the WNBA Finals again last fall, and she'll don her Indiana uniform for the final time in 2016. You won't want to miss Tamika's final season or miss the Fever take still another crack at the WNBA Finals.
