Brad Mehldau & Chris Thile
Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and mandolin virtuoso and singer Chris Thile join melodic forces, forming a super duo that takes audiences on a soulful journey from Bach to Radiohead and back. Mehldau, who has worked around the world—primarily as a part of trio—since the mid-1990s, showcases impressive skills as an improviser. Yet a groundwork of studied musical architecture underlies each of his melodic arches, revealing hidden narratives and enabling him to expertly capture the classics. His awe-inspiring dexterity has led to collaborations with musical greats such as Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, and, now, with Chris Thile.
Thile was one of the masterminds behind Nickel Creek, the Grammy-winning bluegrass band that sold two million records and whose 2002 album, This Side was certified gold. His latest project, Punch Brothers, continues to unleash his signature mandolin mastery, which undulates through vintage bluegrass, jazz, and classical strains and often accompanies his soulful tenor. Together, Mehldau and Thile tap into their individual artistry to form a duo that seamlessly moves from original compositions to covers to proposed used-car-lot jingles.
