What You’ll Do

In Argentina, when you sandwich a dollop of dulce de leche between two soft, buttery cookies, you get an alfajor. The delicious treat was originally brought to South America by Spanish colonists in the 19th century. Since then, it’s become Argentina’s national cookie, and is commonly eaten for breakfast, dessert, and whenever the mood to snack strikes. In this workshop, Argentina native Lucila Giagrande teaches you how to make alfajores yourself using ingredients with no preservatives, added colors, or added flavors, and a recipe that is impeccably loyal to its roots.

Argentina native and artisan baker Lucila Giagrande shows you how to make delicious alfajores using her authentic recipe.

  • Take Your Treats Home

Founder and Artisan Baker, Lucila’s Homemade

Lucila Giagrande comes from a small town in Argentina, where she grew up devouring pastries made with love and lots of dulce de leche by her mom, grandma and aunts. After moving to the US and having children, she started baking the alfajores at home and sharing them with friends. At their urging, she left a career in catering and founded Lucila’s Homemade. Her alfajores have been featured in Daily Candy and Time Out Chicago, making their “Best Things We Ate of 2011” list. Today, her treats can be found at local cafes, farmers’ markets, and specialty shops around town.
