The Scouting Report
Riding a wave of five straight playoff berths, the Grizzlies dribble into the 2015–16 season as a heavyweight in the Western Conference. The team’s quiet consistency over the last half-decade stems from its veteran core of Zac Randolph, Mike Conley, and Marc Gasol, who signed a new five-year contract this past offseason. The team also had a relatively smooth summer by keeping all of their key players in place, meaning no games this year should be interrupted by awkward on-court ice breakers. In the coming months, the Grizzlies will begin their journey to yet another postseason—and possibly a title—as they clash with opponents at FedExForum, where they were nearly unbeatable a year ago.
After moving from Vancouver to Memphis in 2001, the Grizzlies have established themselves as one of the NBA's perennial playoff threats, making the postseason seven times since 2004. Competing in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference, the Grizzlies face off against formidable division rivals San Antonio and Dallas, scratching and clawing their way to victory and stretching to reach the food bags hoisted to the top of the backboard.
In between rim-rattling dunks, fans can explore the amenities at FedExForum, such as a variety of concessions and restaurants. The theme song that plays in the arena's concourse salutes Memphis's rich history of music and pays homage to the way Grizz the mascot's growl could sort of sound like a harp.
