The Scouting Report
The eight-wheeled warriors of the Port City Roller Girls open the 2014 season with a rocking bout between their two home squads: the Rough and Ready Betties and the Delta Sirens. The 60-minute bout will feature most of the PCRG roster as they attempt to block, jam, and dash their way to a winning performance. Though they all play for the same organization, the camaraderie will not temper the competition; players always bring their A-game, as top performers play for the Port City travel team and get first choice of knee pads.
Port City Roller-Girls
Founded in May, 2006, the skater-owned-and-operated Port City Roller Girls have flourished into a fierce roster of female combatants who seamlessly intertwine their talents despite diverse backgrounds, age gaps, and varying definitions of pain. During each bout, helmeted players joust elbow-to-elbow while soaring around a flat track, clearing avenues for fleet-footed jammers who whiz through the traffic—and opponents looking to knock them off their route—to score points. Referees monitor all the action, which is split into two rounds by a halftime period that allows attendees to stretch their legs or compare helmet prototypes in the parking lot.
