The Glass Academy was very fun. We ended up being the only people in our class. We also picked a perfect day. Since the weather was cooler, the studio was not that hot. Great activity for cooler day. Logan was very patient with us and gave us great guidance in making our bottle stopper. It was also very educational.

Took the class "Making an icicle" and Logan, our instructor, was wonderful! Never having handled "hot glass" seemed at first intimidating, but once everything was explained it was fun and educational. If you've ever thought you would like to try - I urge you to check it out for yourself! You just may love it! I plan on doing more classes very soon!

What You'll Get

After purchasing this deal, you will need to visit the website listed on your Groupon voucher to complete redemption.

Choose Between Two Options

  • $68 for a Percolla Reed class for one, including a big bubble blow, redeemable on weekdays ($125 value)
  • $68 for a Percolla Reed class for one, including a big bubble blow, redeemable on weekends ($125 value)

Guided by the steady hands of two inspired instructors, students in the class get to design and mold molten glass into Percolla Reeds—curled, plantlike tendrils that add a fantastical touch to any garden. A variety of color patterns and techniques help impress personal touches before the pieces are cooled off. After pieces are completed, the artists will attach them to a metal rod for display. To allow time this completion, pieces will be available for pickup one week later during normal gallery hours. Because of the heat from the molten glass, open-toe shoes are not allowed and water or sports drinks are recommended.

About Glass Academy

Since the visionary artistic husband-and-wife team of Chris Nordin and Michelle Plucinsky began Glass Academy, the state-certified glass-arts trade school has instilled glassblowing and other silica-shaping know-how into community members. The studio leads classes for all skill levels of craftsmen, ranging from introductory sessions to private lessons with a master glassblower. An on-site gallery showcases the fruits of their labors, which customers take home once they are completed. Handcrafted, custom works such as paperweights, beer mugs, and signature piece Detroit Puddle, created by pouring hot glass over a sewer cap, are available for purchase.

When not shaping delicate masterpieces, the staff shares their love of art with the outside world, leading educational tours of their 14,000-square-foot studio space. They also host gatherings including parties with demonstrations and explanations of the glass-blowing process as well as corporate training events, during which employees participate in a team-building, hands-on workshop. Glass Academy frequently hosts other fun events and fundraisers, including beer tastings, and drop-in workshops.
