The Fun Palette equips creative minds of all skill levels with the knowledge and supplies to craft pride-inspiring works in a schedule of classes led by local artists such as proprietor Cari Cohen. Groups of 5–40 don aprons and line up at the artwork-festooned studio’s long tables to send brushes sweeping in acrylic strokes on provided 16”x20” canvases. Students can closely follow their instructor’s step-by-step instructions, practicing acrylic techniques to create the featured painting of the night, such as a flowing landscape or an abstract piece, or go off the beaten path to compose self-portraits that reimagine the painter as a bowl of fruit. Spirited home-brought beverages enhance creation and socialization while local artists peruse the in-progress artworks and dish out tips, helping students manifest masterpieces they can take home after the class to accent a mantel or replace a worn-out welcome mat.
The Jewelry Metal class introduces the skills necessary to handcraft a collection of body ornaments to intimate groups of students. During the 2.5-hour session, pupils immerse themselves in cutting, texturing, bedding, and finishing metal jewelry so that they can home-make personalized gifts as brilliant as Isaac Newton’s tiara.
The Fun Palette
The intricately designed, European-style buildings that populate the Buenos Aires cityscape enchanted the eyes of Argentina native Cari Cohen at an early age, inspiring her to earn a degree in architecture from the University of Buenos Aires. Driven to push the boundaries of architectural innovation, Cari began delving into other creative media to expand her horizons, sparking a newfound fascination with abstract art and jewelry crafting. She has since moved to Miami, where her original paintings have been showcased at events such as Art Basel and Art Miami.
Cari founded The Fun Palette as a way to share her passion for the visual arts with kids and adults, hosting a variety of imagination-spurring classes for students of all skill and experience levels. During the studio's painting sessions, students can closely follow their instructor's step-by-step instructions to create flowing landscapes or abstract pieces or go off the beaten path to compose self-portraits that reimagine the painter as a bowl of fruit.
