Wonderful whalewatching trip! Cathy was super easy to work with, our guide Catherine was so fun and enthusiastic -- and, best of all, we saw TONS of whales!

They found a pack of killer whales which was awesome and rare. We saw a lot of humpback whales too. One even did a huge jump all the way in the air with a twist on our way back in. It was amazing. They do sport fishing too. The fishermen were really fun and we are thinking of doing their fishing tour.

We had a wonderful experience on our whale watching trip. Emma our guide was really great and answered all of the questions and seemed very knowledgeable about the whales and other aspects of the tour. I would definitely recommend this company! And we will be back

The boat and crew were nice but the over all experience was very disappointing. They took us about 30 minutes out in the bay. No interaction with crew. We saw a few spouts from a whale and kind of the top of his head. We wait for a while saw a few small spouts and then headed back in. On the way in there was a humpback on the far side of the boat but could not see it They told us humpbacks can stay under for 8 to 10 minutes so we were going to leave. Very disappointed! The Whale watch report said there were many sightings on grey whales, humpback and killer whales along with 100's of dolphins that same day. We basically saw nothing

About Q&A with Carol Jones, Owner

Apart from your business's main attraction, do you offer any "hidden" services or activities that visitors are always delighted to learn about?
We pride ourselves with a Captain and crew that are dedicated to your experience aboard the "Kahuna", courteous service and a clean well maintained vessel. Kahuna has been based out of Moss Landing for 26 years. The first charter boat to run out of Moss Landing.

I'm a first-timer. How do you get me ready for the experience?
If you have never been on a boat in the ocean and not sure if motion sickness will get to you we would advise taking medication at least an hour before getting on the boat to help ensure you have a pleasant experience.

As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
The Kahuna is U.S.Coast Guard certified which means we are inspected every year. Our professional crew holds periodic drills to stay fresh and know exactly what to do in case the unexpected happens.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Moss Landing is in the heart of the Monterey Bay. The Monterey Bay Submarine Canyon, the largest and deepest submarine canyon on the Pacific coast, extends to within 700 feet from the shoreline at Moss Landing. Upwelling occurs from the depths of the canyon bringing nutrients to draw the fishes for the whales and dolphin to feast on. We don't have to go far just right in our own backyard.
