Kilwins Chocolates & Ice Cream
In 1947, Don Kilwin struck upon the perfect method for making candies and chocolates—and when you discover perfection, you don't abandon it. That's why almost 70 years later, the chefs at their dozens and dozens of locations across the country still use old-fashioned copper kettles and marble slabs. It's what earned them a place in the pantheon of Americana, and what helps them continue to make the highest quality products while maintaining an impeccable level of service. On each visit, guests can see the proof of that: the glass-walled kitchens afford a clear view of the delectable goings-on as the dreamweavers conjure cashew brittle and caramel apples. Perhaps most famous of all is their Mackinac Island fudge; derived from the original recipe, the fudge is hand-paddled in the show kitchen each day, much to the delight of sweets-loving onlookers. No matter the confection, a steaming mug of coffee, hot chocolate, or cider pairs perfectly with each sweet treats.
