About Mr. Ronnie's Famous Hot Donuts
Mr. Ronnie's Famous Hot Donuts isn't exaggerating its fame—it's indeed a beloved name in southeastern Louisiana. The shops are best known for their glazed donuts, which are always available hot and fresh for take-out customers and diners who park themselves on the '50s-style chrome stools. But Mr. Ronnie's has accumulated more than 40 other donut creations through the years. Find out what else the eatery is famous for:
Cake donuts: The light and airy glazed donuts, crullers, and twists may be the most well-known, but every regular has their favorite cake donut. Some of the most popular are the red velvet cake, the almond-flavored wedding cake, and the rich devil's food cake.
Round-the-clock hours: Yep, Mr. Ronnie's is open 24 hours a day. This attracts a wide range of customers, including families stopping in for a quick treat, church groups after Sunday services, third-shift workers in need of a satisfying breakfast, and LSU night owls.
Its provenance: The institution began back in 1976, when Ronnie Picou bought a donut-shop franchise from Louisiana legend Al Copeland, the founder of Popeyes. Ronnie quickly became known as the Donut Man in the bayou town of Houma, and its residents were sorely disappointed when he severed ties with the larger company. Thankfully, the Picous reentered the donut business in 1994 with Mr. Ronnie's Famous Hot Donuts; the family continues to run the business.
