O Live Brooklyn

Husband-and-wife team Greg Bernarducci and Elizabeth Weiss opened O Live Brooklyn thanks to two distinct yet intertwined inspirations: their 10-year-old daughter and a desire to lead an organic, all-natural lifestyle. After Bernarducci spent 25 years in the television industry and Weiss moved to New York to pursue her painting career, the duo developed an appreciation for healthy living by becoming parents and joining a community-supported agriculture (CSA) program. They want to share their passion for fresh, flavorful food with other people, and their medium of choice is olive oil.

Twelve rotating varieties of extra-virgin, single-varietal olive oils and 11 types of flavored olive oils imported by Veronica Foods, to be more precise. Focused on freshness as much as transparency, Bernarducci and Weiss attach a harvest date and 12-month hourglass to every oil they carry. They help shoppers understand the chemistry of more than 50 oils and balsamic vinegars on tap, housing the products—as Time Out New York points out—in custom-built stainless-steel tanks. But they do more than fill bottles and answer informal questions: the launch of their Olive Oil 101 tutorial was announced in the New York Times. The store also showcases olive-wood accessories that are hand-carved in Tunisia, including a crescent-shaped bottle holder that was featured in New York magazine.

This place was such a pleasant surprise! I saw the Groupon and thought it would be a fun place for my boyfriend and I to check out. When we got there, the woman there was so pleasant and helpful. We took our time and got to try as many oils and vinegars as we wanted and there were so many!! We had a fabulous time and will definitely go back. The products we bought were fantastic! Thank you!
