Early air shows consisted only of chariots slowly towing the moon out of the sky, followed by Icarian flights straight into the sun. Witness more entertaining aerial spectacles with today’s Groupon: for $19, you get two drop-zone tickets to the Ocean City Air Show on Saturday, June 11 or Sunday, June 12 (a $39.14 value).
Six military demo teams and at least seven civilian acts jet through DC air space in the 2011 Ocean City Air Show, whose feats of aircraft derring-do and wing-suited performances thrill earthbound aviation fans. The B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber and AV-8B Harrier demo team take to the skies to intimidate the birds and clouds that started the Cold War with aerial maneuvers and thrilling flybys. The daredevils of the Red Bull Air Force free fall in customized wing suits that let them glide through the air with avian grace and peck at bread crumbs without attracting attention. Prior to each show, early birds can breakfast with the performers at 8 a.m. at Layton's Restaurant. Following Saturday's performance, night owls can attend the Miller Lite beach party on the beach at 16th Street. The majority of the show is visible from Ocean City's 3-mile-long boardwalk, where attendees can stroll past street performers, carousels, and sub-boardwalk troll casinos as planes tear through the skies overhead.
