When it first opened more than a century ago, Palmieri’s Bakery was just a small storefront on Almy Street. The shop specialized in bread and pizza using old family recipes from Italy, and won the loyalty of the community. Over time, the bakery grew to become a Providence favorite, serving up everything from cannoli and zeppoles to almond biscotti and egg biscuits. Today, you can step inside this slice of traditional Italy and pick up a loaf of savory Italian bread, a slice of Sicilian pizza, or a hat-full of cream-filled pastries. Folks can even spruce up parties with one of the bakery’s specialty cakes, layered with lemon coconut, triple chocolate, and samoa cake.
