Pera Wine & Tapas
As night falls, twinkle lights blink to life on Pera Wine & Tapas's outdoor patio, their bulbs reflected in the curves of dozens of wine glasses. Those glasses are a main draw here—wine is Pera's specialty, and display cases throughout the restaurant are filled with varietals from Western Europe, South America, and the Pacific Northwest.
Several bottles fittingly hail from Turkey, where Executive Chef Habip Kargin was born. Kargin opened his first restaurant in Turkey, then came to Manhattan to hone his skills in tapas bars. Today he brings that same culinary style to Texas, preparing small plates with distinctly Mediterranean flavors. The menu features dishes such as octopus carpaccio, sliced thin and served with baby arugula, fennel, and capers, and shrimp kadayif, wrapped in shredded wheat with avocado and cilantro. Vegetarian options are available for those dining meat-free, and live music throughout the week satisfies those who subsist only on sweet jams.
