What is one of your signature services? How is it performed?

Dr. Nelson performs the EVLT procedure which ablates the interior damaged veins. Many people do not realize that the surface veins are often caused by deeper veins that have been stretched out over time. These veins can cause painful, tired, aching, and restless legs as well as the cosmetic varicose and spider veins. For the EVLT procedure, we offer conscious sedation to relax the patient and reduce any discomfort, and Dr. Nelson inserts the laser into the troublesome inner veins and ablates the vein so that the body can reroute the blood to healthier veins.

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?

Dr. Nelson has been passionate about vascular disease since his fellowship in Cardiology and Vascular Medicine at Emory University in 2005. He is one of the only physicians who is fellowship trained and achieved board certification in Vascular Medicine in the region. In order to have overall health, it is important to be ProActive. When a person has painful legs they tend to exercise less which affects a person’s overall health and lifestyle.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn’t cover?

It is very important for patient’s to make sure that whomever they go to for treatment is adequately trained and certified in the specific treatment that the patient is obtaining. Often we see patients that have gone to vein centers where the physician has training in another area of medicine and does not have the proper background to understand vascular medicine. Our clinic has credentialing in all areas of treatment, including ICAVL, which is the credentialing to perform vascular ultrasounds.
