Q&A with the Owner, Yoga Teacher
Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Whether you commit to coming to yoga class once per week or once per day, consistency is the key to seeing transformation and experiencing the full benefits of yoga in body, mind and soul. Yoga starts with exercising the body, but you will see that yoga is much more than an exercise. Start with putting aside a small amount of time for you to take one yoga class a week; when you are ready add a second yoga class and perhaps a meditation class to round out and give variety to your practice. You will find that you will naturally crave more time for your health, happiness and wellbeing through your personal yoga practice. All these good things you will carry with you off the mat into all aspects of your life.
Do you believe in the maxim, “No pain, no gain”? Why or why not?
While it is important to challenge yourself, try new things and test your limits, a student of yoga should appreciate his strengths, work on his weaknesses but always keep in mind that yoga is not a competition. You will see that the body will become more flexible and stronger as you progress in your practice. Of course, in this process you may feel some soreness in the muscles and joints as you exercise the body in new ways and explore more advanced yoga postures, but the gains will really come from being kind to yourself, not by striving for pain. Just explore all the amazing possibilities under the guidance of an experienced teacher.
