"The Great Gatsby" Moonshine Ball & Onyx 111 Infusion Challenge
Onyx Moonshine has been made in Connecticut for hundreds of years, and was launched legally in 2012. At the The Great Gatsby Moonshine Ball & Onyx 111 Infusion Challenge, cocktails and music bring the Jazz Age to the Wadsworth Mansion. Guests garbed in period-appropriate tuxedos and flapper dresses can mingle in chandelier-lit ballrooms or promenade along the outdoor patio of the more than century-old mansion while sampling hor d'oeuvres from Wood n' Tap and drinks. The centerpiece of the evening is a tasting of 15 hand-selected infusions crafted by Connecticut restaurants with Onyx 111—the distilling company's high-proof version of a traditional New England-style moonshine. Participating restaurants include Firebox, Front Street Bistro, Pond House Grille, Eli Cannons Tap Room, Krust, Market Grille, Cugino's, and Tuscany Grille. Guests will vote for their favorite infusions with a gold coin alongside a VIP judging panel.
Live music by Postmodern Jukebox fills the soiree with a jaunty score perfect for dancing the Charleston, or just reaching out symbolically for distant green lights. Featuring a six-piece band with a standup bass, piano, and a singer who looks like she was pulled straight out of the 1920s, the band puts a swing, jazz, and ragtime spin on modern pop songs by such artists as Daft Punk and Macklemore—an acumen that has earned Postmodern Jukebox more than 10 million Youtube views so far.
