Expensive for how basic it is, did the job. Stayed for 11 days on a business trip that I extended for a holiday. Only picked here because they had a special rate for the conference I was attending at the university, which still turned out to be pricey. Rate did not extend to a few days before or after the conference, which I find odd when people might be travelling halfway across the world to visit- which I did. A very weird choice by the conference organisers - its basically a 15-20min Uber from the hotel to anywhere, and there's not much worth visiting in walking distance other than Jimmy's Tavern across the road - excellent restaurant! Hotel was very expensive for what it is - dated, tired looking. I was in room 113, I paid nearly £1000 ($1250) for 4 nights as "holiday" extension on my trip (work paid the other days) - definitely not worth it. Plus all the Ubering to get anywhere made it very pricey. That said, I had a double double-bed room, spacious and meant I could keep my luggage at waist height, and a walk in shower with a toilet that was well spaced so could accommodate my accessibility needs, without needing an "accessible" room, which i appreciated. I kept the "do not disturb" sign on the door every day, bar 1, hoping for a nice clean and turn down around day 6, which didn't happen despite me asking - someone came and made the bed, that was it. Disappointed with that. Toilet paper was cheap and nasty. Room was reasonably clean when I arrived - the carpet is filthy so had to keep shoes on at all times. Free WiFi was fine for what I needed it for. Surprisingly the hotel bar was really good - I got nachos there night 1, really impressed. I went back twice for drinks but the staff never tried to build a rapport so I didn't bother after that. I was going to try again later in the trip but other dinner options presented themselves so I didn't get back for food. I'm sad I missed that. Overall I did enjoy my trip - the hotel didn't add much to it other than being convenient to my accessibility requirements. Would have been nice to have been wow-d, given the cost. Maybe the new bits are good, the run down bits "round the back" are very average. That said, staff were very obliging helping me with my suitcases to and from my room, and pick up/drop off at the airport via the free hotel shuttle was smooth and easy to book.

The picture is worth a thousand words…..they just aren’t the ones the hotel likely wants to hear. I rated this poorly for a few reasons: 1) Lack of truth in advertising and/or what seems to be a “bait and switch”. What you see in the photo is this nice, new, modern, brightly lit, hotel. What you don’t see are the dated buildings and rooms behind it, built in the 1950-1970s where attempts to modernize appear to be more like lipstick on a pig. I was very disappointed the establishment either omits the fact the majority of rooms are in these older, dated building and lack any sort of transparency. 2) Well over-priced for the accommodations, given the dated nature of the rooms, locations, poor parking accommodations (which you pay more for). 3) The access cards to get into the parking areas errored out many times before it would finally work and open the gate. Very frustrating 4) The smell of rotten eggs when turning on the water in the bathroom sink and it happened each time I opened the tap. Thank god I had bottled water as I would not drink or put in my mouth the water coming from the tap. The only real upsides were that the room was spacious, even if not well laid out (very narrow entry with an odd looking counter which held a very loud microwave and the internet, which worked well and had good speeds. I travel a fair amount and have stayed in many wonderful and not-so-wonderful places. I will not stay here again.

Fine 3-stars hotel The San Diego Bayside Holiday Inn is a typical three star hotel with decent conference facilities. I stayed there two nights for a training event. I purposefully requested a renovated room based on the reviews here, since it's not evident on the booking website which rooms are updated. At check-in, I attempted to confirm the room category as refurbished, and the receptionist (probably new or poorly trained) didn't seem to know what I was talking about. I am still unsure if the rooms in Tower A are the remodeled ones or not - I think they are! The room is comfortable and functional, with a TV and a desk, ironing board, alarm clock, etc. The bathroom was very basic and had a slightly odd odor, but worked fine. The hotel is located across from a commercial pier area, with many nice restaurants and a walking path. I particularly recommend Mitch's seafood, which had outstanding fish dishes and a bar style setting.

Don't recommend this hotel for SDCC Stayed here last July for SDCC. The hotel we were booking on line through the virtual portal was very different from the hotel that we stayed in. The photos that are shown are for the renovated tower. The majority of Comic Con goers were given rooms at the back of the property in old, not updated motel rooms. The room was very outdated, was not well maintained and was very dark. Our room was not inside as originally advertised. Our room was accessible from the road and parking lot with people walking by our window all night. We basically beg for the hotel to help and even called the IHG head office requesting a new room and because they were at capacity they basically ignored us. We thought we were going to be several floors up in a really nice modern hotel room instead we were given a motel room on the side of the road. We splurged to get a nicer hotel than the Mission Valley region but in the end it was one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in.
