  • Monster X Tour, Lenny Cooper
The echoes of crunching metal and the sweet smell of burning rubber fill arenas as the Monster X Tour roars across the country, thrilling all ages in action-packed motorsports showcases. Each city will witness a slightly different fleet of monster trucks, including Bigfoot, the kinetic king of chassis-crushing autos, and Rock Star, a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado with 66" wheels and 26" hydraulic shocks. Each event incorporates jaw-dropping races, wheelie contests, and freestyle car composting. In addition to the monster trucks, fans are treated to such entertainment as high flying freestyle motocross and demolition derbies. Before the show, pit-party attendees can meet and receive autographs from the drivers.

  • Watson Ranch Golf Course
Seventy-five years separate Watson Ranch Golf’s front and back nines, which billow across an undulating parcel of wooded terrain just east of the Coos River. Known as Coos Country Club when it opened for play in 1923, the course’s original nine holes were designed by H. Chandler Egan. A successful amateur golfer himself, his idea of a proper introduction was welcoming players with a pair of stiff par 5s. While Mr. Egan would go on to redesign the famous Pebble Beach Golf Links just six years later, Watson Ranch Golf remained a 9-hole course until 1998, when it sprouted a back nine. Today, the 18-hole course also incorporates a driving range, a chipping area, and two practice putting greens where golfers can limber up before acquainting themselves with Mr. Egan’s opening holes. Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 72 course * Total length of 6,402 yards from the back tees * Three sets of tees per hole * Scorecard

  • Sand Master Park
Some kids eventually outgrow their sandbox. Others just find more sand. Lots and lots of sand. At Sand Master Park, that natural material covers 40 acres, where it takes the form of sculpted dunes and rolling slopes ideal for sand-boarding: a sport similar to snowboarding, just with more agreeable weather conditions. Here, instructors teach lessons on how to glide over sand and eventually execute tricks on jump rails and slides. The sandy grounds also allow for other activities, including skim-boarding, sand sculpting, and dune buggies.
