  • Nong's Thai Cuisine
Chef Nong's culinary journey began in Bangkok at age 12, when she would procure supplies from the corner market and cook for her family. She spent her adolescence perfecting her mother and grandmother's recipes, and then gained extra practice when she started a family of her own. At age 35, Nong decided it was time to share her culinary flair with members of other families. She progressed through restaurant jobs in Thailand and Malaysia before landing a gig in Minneapolis, where she earned her sriracha-soaked stripes by cooking at a number of area restaurants before opening her own eatery, Nong's Thai Cuisine. In her own kitchen, Nong relies on her stockpile of inherited recipes to create a menu of authentic, homestyle Thai fare, which earned the eatery the distinction of Best Thai Restaurant 2010 from City Pages. Featured in Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, the "perfectly timed noodles" of the pad thai carry al dente firmness, and the "high quality" curries stimulate taste buds in a more refined manner than chili pepper stimulates the eye. Flavors of tamarind and papaya infuse salads and stir-fries, and crisp veggies top noodle dishes, all calibrated to customer-chosen levels of heat.

  • Karta Thai
The word "karta" refers to one of the most important tools in any kitchen, especially a Thai kitchen?the pan/wok. In kartas, Karta Thai's chefs stir-fry various ingredients together to create Thai cuisine's signature flavors, colors, and aromas. They might use a karta to craft a dish from the "Unique Entree" section of the menu, such as gang ped duck. This features sweet and spicy duck curry teeming with tomatoes, pea pods, pineapple, and basil. The chefs can also whip up sweeter dishes, such as pad mango. Much like the most memorable gift bags at a child's party, this dish is stacked with mango, bell peppers, and onions, and enhanced by a special Thai sauce.

  • Thai Cuisine
At Thai Cuisine, there isn't a smorgasbord of dishes from all across Asia. That's because Master Chef Fimon Song doesn't cook dishes he hasn't mastered. Instead, the menu is populated with carefully crafted Eastern Thai dishes that Fimon learned while training in Thailand. His signature dish is the duck laab, which features a slightly bitter and sour taste courtesy of the sauce's orchestration of lemongrass, cilantro, mint, and garlic. Most dishes rely upon fresh seafood, which chefs toss with aromatic sauces and herbs to create plates of curry crab and pineapple and tomato shrimp. Meals are paired with creamy glasses of Thai tea and bubble tea that's more fun to drink than a fire hydrant filled with chocolate milk.
