  • A Place In The Park
Muscle kneader Toveh Zaifert knows that every one of her clients is different. That's why each of her massages is different as well. A graduate of the New York Institute of Massage, Toveh specializes in the customization of her treatments to fit each individual's needs. When she begins a treatment, she'll ask if there are any specific aches, pains, or fears of cowbells she can help allay. Clients then can also choose whether they'd like soothing music played or prefer the serenity of silence. Toveh has trained in a number of massage modalities and is particularly skilled at Swedish, deep-tissue, and medical massage.

  • New Trendz Salon
At New Trendz Salon, the team expertly preps hair for special events. Sometimes, they go about it by custom cutting and coloring manes, or curling locks up into elaborate bouffants. However, they can also go about it by waxing off unwanted stubble, a process they handle as painlessly as possible whether they're administering a Brazilian or a back wax. The team can also enhance faces with custom-blended makeup or European facials, which nourish skin more effectively than just holding an ice pack to your cheek.

  • A Place in the Park
After years of salon experience, Melanie Speidel found herself disillusioned with the industry’s often impersonal standards. She decided to combine her know-how into a joint venture—A Place in the Park—where she planned to offer classic salon and spa services with a highly personal touch. The popular salon quickly outgrew its first location, and in 2010 she moved into a spacious, stand-alone building with blond hardwood floors and plenty of natural light.

  • Little Diva's Day Spa
Pink walls, tiaras, and rows of frilly white dresses just waiting to be worn. It’s a dream come true for some children, but it wasn’t always the dream of Tiffany's Trend Salon owner Debi Lamparelli, a beauty-industry veteran who credits her niece with the idea for the kids-focused salon in an article from WNY Woman. Soon, though, she found herself as enthralled by the idea as her pintsize patrons, telling WNY reporter Ashley Johnson, “I love children and would love to celebrate a special time in their lives. I love dressing girls up and making them feel like divas.” The love of dress up is apparent from the moment customers enter the pink-striped salon, where rows of girls aged 2–13 can be found relaxing against candy-colored overstuffed pillows as aestheticians trim and paint nails and accentuate already rosy cheeks with gentle swipes of a makeup brush. Debi and her staff take the idea of royal treatment literally, providing snowy-white princess gowns and sparkling tiaras that their pintsize customers may don to emulate their favorite Disney character or eccentric mayor. The salon also hosts spa–themed birthday parties for up to 12 girls, pampering party guests with age-appropriate indulgences such as facials, pedicures, cupcakes, and sliced cucumbers for each set of eyes.

  • Nece's Salon & Spa
After moving to Buffalo, Nece Bellomo found herself returning to a passion she had first discovered in her homeland of Brazil: styling hair. “I just like to make people happy, to make them beautiful,” she says, recounting how she embarked on a whirlwind of education with hair mavens from Paul Mitchell and Rusk. Seven years ago, after only six years working in other people's salons, a devoted clientele motivated Nece to open her own salon and spa. Drawing on a sleek New York aesthetic for inspiration, Nece and her daughter—a Goldwell-educated stylist and coworker—decorated the space in blacks, whites, and silvers and hung mirrors with ornate scrollwork frames to reflect back their clients' masterful coiffures. Although Nece is drawn to modern styles and keeps abreast of the latest coloring techniques and trends, she and her team focus on shearing ’dos that suit their clients’ face shapes, preferences, and inspiration from their favorite Bjork album. In addition to pampering tresses, the salon and spa also enhances nails with chip-resistant Gelish polish, lavishes feet with scrubs and pedicures, and waxes away unwanted body fuzz.

When clients come in to get lathered up and close-cropped, the barber shop's laid-back and friendly atmosphere will make them feel welcome.
