Dr. Sy Rosenblum, his son, Dr. David, Dr. Julie Bhindi, and Dr. Sheryl A. Bruce form a team of optometrists who advise on ocular wellness and style alongside a talented staff. Vision exams determine prescriptions, general health, and lashes' spelling abilities. Going above and beyond standard checkups, the clinic also provides pediatric eye care, as well as disease management and trauma care.
After clients' eyes have been assessed, they may accessorize with contacts or a new pair of glasses complete with lenses crafted in the on-site lab. Perched inside elegant, glossy display cases, designer frames by Ray-Ban, Oliver Peoples, and Dolce & Gabbana reflect the offices' crisp, modern lighting and dark wood accents. Specialty eyewear offers frames and lenses for customers involved with athletics, hobbies, and occupations that place specific demands on peepers, such as working with computers or engaging in varsity-level staring contests.
Outside of promoting eye health, the practice champions local involvement through its commitment to community service. It has served as a headquarters for Rachel's Hug-a-Bears, a group founded by Dr. David's daughter that sends teddy bears and notes to children in hospitals. Through other organizations, the doctors have also donated their services, free of charge, to patients in need.
Marta Wozniak, owner of Blu Laguna Salon and Spa, was training at the prestigious Pivot Point International Academy in Chicago when she decided to put her hairdressing skills to the test at the Midwest Beauty Show. This proved to be a wise move, as she won first place out of 132 other competitors from across the country. Her triumph caught the eye of beauty heavyweights at Elizabeth Arden's Red Door Spa, who brought her on staff and launched her career in the salon world. Eventually, Marta shifted her focus to the sunny scenery of California, where she worked in a few salons before opening her own.
True to its name, the decor of Blu Laguna evokes the feel of a tranquil shoreline. Dangling glass bubbles bend the image of ocean-blue walls in the waiting area, which leads onto a mod, minimalist salon floor whose stark blue and white color scheme is only interrupted by the solitary flower that adorns each styling station. Here, Marta's staff of salon and spa experts—made up of a diverse combination of pros fresh to the industry and those with more than two decades in the business—brightens exteriors with haircuts, skincare, massages, and makeup services. When they aren't polishing clients, the specialists are sharpening their skills in fashion shows, photo shoots, and guerrilla makeovers on unsuspecting crossing guards.
Executive chef Thomas Crijns of Brussels Bistro teams up with fellow Belgian Philippe De Smedt and French restaurateur Thierry Perreau to give his seasonally inspired menu of Belgian-style cuisine a French twist, earning the restaurant recognition as one of the 2012 Top 10 Orange County Bistro Restaurants in Gayot and named Best French Fries in 2008 in OC Weekly for their signature side with dipping sauces. With live jazz music each Tuesday through Thursday and DJs spinning music under pulsing colored lights Fridays and Saturdays, it is not surprising that OpenTable also took notice of the spot and awarded Brussels Bistro the Diners Choice for Late Night Find.
While known for its late night offerings, Brussels Bistro features a menu of lunch fare including quiche Lorraine packed with gruyere cheese, tomatoes, and bacon and savory ham-and-cheese crepes. Diners may opt to share their bountiful pots of mussels and Belgian-style fries on the sunny outdoor terrace while sipping one of nine Belgian beers on tap or 15 bottled varieties each served with a signature glass etched with its family tree.
Bikram Yoga Laguna Beach's instructors, certified by the technique's creator, Bikram Choudhury, sculpt lean frames with strengthening postures performed in elevated temperatures, earning the attention of OC Lifestyle. They lead patrons of all skill levels through 90-minute Bikram yoga classes, bathing bodies in hot air, which helps to loosen limbs for deeper stretching and coaxes out beads of sweat to flush out toxins and internal snowmen. The 26 postures pair up with two breathing techniques to awaken slumbering organs and keep veins coursing with oxygen-rich blood as students bolster balance, strength, and flexibility. The wall-to-wall mirrors reflect the hard-working bodies, which are bathed in natural light flooding in through the white-walled studio's windows. After class, students may opt to capitalize on the studio's close proximity to the beach and cool off in the ocean one block away.
Private instruction pairs yogis with custom personal-training sessions to ensure guests practice proper technique, and private classes for groups bond coworkers, athletes, or groups of friends through focused movements.

Two Moroccan-style pouf chairs sit beneath an industrial wood and metal table, which in turn is weighed with antique books, sculptures, and a mirror in a carved frame. The scene might have come straight from a magazine shoot, but it's only a creative arrangement of the eclectic merchandise at Macalistaire at 1850. It's no surprise that shop owner Rachiel Macalistaire was inspired to open the store after her styling work was featured in home and style magazines. An avid vintage shopper, she filled the store with items from every decade, from a '50s wiggle dress to a '90s Y2K biohazard suit. Half the floor space is devoted to couches, dressers, mirrors, sculptures, and other eye-catching home items. Despite the range of goods, writers at Refinery29 wrote, "No need to spend a ton of time sifting through racks of clothing…every item from this carefully curated shop is tops!" The store also caught the eye of local press and grabbed the number-three spot on CBS 2 News and KCAL TV's top consignment shops in Orange County list.
