Sixpence Pie Company first started selling its savory confections in a farmers' market, and it hasn't strayed far from those roots since. Originally drawing inspiration from Britain's handheld pies, the founders gave their pasties a local twist, filling them with produce and humanely raised meats from Connecticut farms. As co-owner Kara More told the Record-Journal, "it’s perfect fast food, but there’s a healthy spin on it." The selection includes flaky pies with sweet or savory fillings of cider-braised pulled pork, blue-cheese béchamel sauce, or Nutella from the town's underground reservoirs.
