Frank Davis Sr. had been working in the large mail order business since early 1900s, selling household items to rural America form his home state of Missouri. In the 1920s, his 8 year old daughter was suffering from extreme allergies and doctors advised that they move her south, to the warmer, drier climate in South Texas. Frank took a train to Harlingen, Texas, close to the Mexican border, where he was introduced to a local fruit grower named Howard Pittman. When Pittman found out that Davis was in the mail order business, he expressed that he had always wanted to sell his prize winning citrus fruit that way. A business was born.

Around ten years later, in the 1930s, Pittman sold his share of the business to Davis and now more than 80 years later the company is still run by family. Ned Davis was 2 years old when the family moved to Texas because of his sister’s allergies, and he is now the CEO of Pittman & Davis.
