Jessyca is a fantastic instructor, the classes are great. The environment is super chill and so are the people. You really can just go on your own pace there is no pressure to keep up with the rest of the class. My favorite class is the cardio burn, great for beginners and for people who are already active.

A small intimate setting which makes you feel like you have a personal trainer. I would recommend to anyone who is new to working out, or looking for attention and instruction from a professional fitness instructor. The cardio burn class is amazing! If you’re new to spinning, this is the place to go. Your technique and attention will improve! Jessica is amazing! Really great experience!

Lovely studio! Small and intimate, means personal attention and a great crew to workout with! The class schedule can be sparse, but once you find a class that works for you, it is always a great time. Will definitely be back again and again.

Muscle Confusion: An Undulating Path to Strength Gains

Learn the secret to overcoming fitness plateaus with Groupon’s guide to muscle confusion.

Study muscle growth in any depth and you might easily reach this conclusion: muscles are kind of lazy. When you work out, your muscles go through an adaption period, growing so that they can handle the extra stress being put on them. But when they’re exposed to the same amount of stress or intensity all the time, they get used to it and promptly stop making gains. To overcome this plateau and destroy muscles’ attitude of smug complacency, trainers might prescribe a program of muscle confusion. That means strategically mixing up the order of workouts, the amount of resistance, length of rest periods, intensity, or other factors so no muscle group gets too familiar with the move.

Charles Poliquin, an athletic trainer who has designed workouts for 17 Olympic sports and for professional sports teams, is most often credited with introducing the concept physiologically known as undulating or nonlinear periodization in 1988. “Nonlinear” refers to the constant fluctuation in workout intensity (as opposed to progressing methodically through higher weight loads, for instance), and “periodization” refers to a specific plan for cycling through workout changes in order to give all the muscles enough attention.

Some studies have found muscle confusion, as it’s now commonly called, to be more effective in promoting long-term fitness and in boosting performance levels, and popular workout systems such as P90X and Insanity plan their intense regimens according to these principles. But if you prefer the comfort of a predictable routine, other experts are on hand to back you up, noting that if you’re focusing on a specific muscle group it may take weeks to get all you can out of a given move.

About CardioBody Fitness Studio

65-year-old Judith Harris hadn't worked out a day in her life. In her testimonial on CardioBody Fitness Studio's website, she says, "It was with absolute fear that I entered a gym for the first time, knowing I needed help, but not having any idea what to expect." Jessyca Slaymaker, the center's owner and head trainer, worked with her to devise a personalized fitness regimen, then helped her build the confidence to push herself past her preconceived fitness barriers. Today, Judith is down to 5% body fat and can curl a 15-pound dumbbell. "What I am learning from [Jessyca] has impacted my life beyond the gym," she says. "I give her the highest recommendation."

Kendra, a CardioBody Client for the past 4 years will now go through the Baby Bump Classes herself! "I've always struggled with maintaining a fitness regimen. You always hear "find something that you enjoy and you'll stick to it." Finally, I found that in Cardio Body Fitness. The classes are fun, Jess and Seth are amazing, and the community feel of the gym makes it not intimidating and a place that you're happy to run into others taking the classes. As if that wasn't enough, the pricing is WAY more reasonable than big box gyms. I've been going for over 4 years now. The instructors here got me ready for my wedding and because of the family nature of the gym, this is where I'll be when I need prenatal and postnatal workouts (and support/venting) as well! This is the kind of gym that you'll start to miss if you haven't been in a while and, for me, there's no better motivation to get a sweat sesh in than that."

This is just a few of the success stories from CardioBody Fitness Studio, where experienced teachers and trainers forge fit bodies in the seasoned and inexperienced alike. For parents with small children, Jessyca and her certified staff host Mommy & Me yoga sessions and the Tiny Jammers music class, which keeps little ones engaged with creative music activities while parents work out. Jessyca calls on her prenatal fitness certification to lead Baby Bump Bootcamp, which keeps expectant mothers healthy and helps stave off the common aches and pains of pregnancy. Naturally, CardioBody Fitness Studio also offers a host of classic fitness classes, leading students through everything from restorative yoga and personal training sessions to medicine ball workouts. Morning Mix Flow vinyasa yoga classes help detox the body with vigorous poses and breath work as ballet barre sessions harness the lengthening and strengthening powers of traditional ballet techniques.
