Following NRA standards, students receive hands-on training in operating a pistol. A combination of classroom and live-fire training covers topics such as handling ammunition, cleaning and storage, and assuming proper stance. Students also get an introduction to basic pistol parts and operation, range safety rules, and proper firearm storage. The class ($135 value) concludes with the Basics of Pistol Shooting Examination, followed by receiving a NRA certificate of completion, including a passport photo and notarization ($20 value).
Classes are typically scheduled on Saturdays. If students desire, the instructor can advise them on further steps for obtaining a Connecticut-state pistol permit.
