About El Canton Firewood Pizzeria
Mexican and Italian may be two of the world's most popular styles of food, but it's rare that you see the two fused together into one super cuisine. That's exactly the case at El Canton Firewood Pizzeria, a restaurant that has its roots in Guadalajara, Mexico. There, in 2011, the restaurant's team of chefs began experimenting with fusion recipes, with help from one very special tool: a wood-fired oven.
Today, at its Katy location, El Canton continues to use its oven to cook everything from pizzas to pastas. Here are a few items that stand out on the menu:
- Viva Villa pizza: This spicy fusion pizza is lathered with a house sauce and topped with chorizo, italian sausage, and jalapenos.
- Ticla Surf pizza: This pie starts pretty traditional, what with its mozzarella and marinara sauce. But then it jumps to another level altogether thanks to hunks of shrimp, pineapple, and bacon.
- Wood-fired lasagna bolognese: Ground beef, sliced ham, and mozzarella make this house pasta tasty, but a few minutes in the firewood oven make it truly special.
