Free Kids’ Event: Help Plant The Presidio Every Wednesday
The Presidio of San Francisco is a former military base that was transformed into a natural wonder that’s part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. As such, it’s home to significant amount of biological diversity, including a 330-acre forest and native plants that have disappeared from the rest of the city. The Presidio Nursery plays a key role in nurturing these native species, which support native wildlife and don’t require as much upkeep as foreign plants. Nursery volunteers of all ages and experience levels help cultivate some 80,000 plants, getting their hands dirty while pruning, composting, seed collecting, transplanting seedlings, and taking care of the demonstration garden.
