Dance showcases healthy forms of physical connection, preferable to giving someone a painful bear hug or sewing your head onto their body. Watch graceful connections unfold with this GrouponLive deal to see Amalgamation, performed by the Minnesota Dance Ensemble at the Paramount Theatre in St. Cloud on Friday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. For $9, you get one ticket for floor seating (a $19.50 value).
Largely choreographed by Minnesota Dance Ensemble's executive director Stephanie Eichman and artistic director Amanda Chouinard, modern dance piece Amalgamation fuses several duet and full-ensemble works to create one cohesive show from the underappreciated movements of everyday life. In "Slow Deluge," Eichman personifies the graceful flow of streams, lakes, and the last sweet sip of Gatorade in the bottle. In another piece, her dancers gesticulate through the embarrassing things people do when they think no one is looking. Chouinard stages the visceral experience of hearing a song for the first time in “Kyprios," then turns to more lighthearted material in a sequence that uses experimental movement to fix an absurd lens on popular sports. The two choreographers' collaboration culminates in a buoyant catwalk-inspired piece that struts and sashays to music by Nancy Sinatra, The Cardigans, and No Doubt.
