What You’ll Do
Whether in a pie or a tart, delicious filling is nothing without the support of a great crust. During her hands-on class, Chef Elham helps students master the tricky art of the crust, guiding them step-by-step toward the creation of their own mini pie. Such an accomplishment more than warrants a treat or two—class begins with a snack and ends with a chance to sample some of the chef’s fresh-baked fruit tarts
Make your own batch of tender, flaky dough, and watch as the chef demonstrates how to create lattice tops, decorative edges, and other flourishes.
From Dough to Pie
As your dough rests, Chef Elham demonstrates how to make a fresh fruit tart. Then you’ll create either strawberry or blueberry filling and roll out your dough for a mini-pie.
Bake at Home
Bring your ready-for-the-oven pie (and the dough recipe) home for future baking. There’s also a chance you’ll leave with something else—all guests will be entered into a drawing to win a ceramic pie dish.
If Elham looks familiar, there’s a good reason: her face has beamed into countless living rooms thanks to her cooking demos on San Francisco’s View from the Bay. That gig is particularly well-suited to Elham, given that she’s spent more than 15 years teaching aspiring cooks the ways of the kitchen. Among her favorite subjects to teach are crepes, as the delicious French treat can seem intimidating, but anyone can do it once they learn the technique.
