Based on the true story of the Hilton sisters, Side Show follows the twins through the ups and downs of their careers and love lives, capturing both a remarkable period of national history and an emotional story of love, loss, and family. The sweeping score earned Side Show one of its four Tony Award nominations on its first Broadway run, punctuating the onstage drama with gems such as “Who Will Love Me As I Am?” and “I Will Never Leave You.” This remounted production serves as the Broadway debut of film director Bill Condon, known for the stage-to-screen adaptations Dreamgirls and Chicago. Grammy-winning composer Henry Krieger adds more music to the acclaimed score, and a talented design team re-imagines the Hilton’s world in dazzling new dimensions.
Violet and Daisy Hilton were unique twins who became stars during the Great Depression. Their individual drives toward fame and normality brought them from England to the United States, leaving the world of sideshows behind to try their luck on the vaudeville circuit. And the nation took notice, eventually making the twins Hollywood stars. But the very thing that brought them fame also steeped their lives in loneliness.
